Cholera

WHAT ABOUT CHOLERA?

Mass outbreaks of cholera are not uncommon in a Refugee Camp, and medical teams need to act quickly.

Cholera is highly contagious. If you contract it, you could become one of thousands of people suffering from acute diarrhoea and vomiting. If you are not treated quickly—a matter of rehydrating your body with a saline solution—you could die of dehydration.

The greatest challenges in treating cholera are to isolate patients effectively to prevent more infections, to rehydrate them quickly enough to save their lives, to chlorinate wells, and to diagnose new cases.
